For the latest Dish Tasting Panel three judges blind-tasted
119 chardonnays from around the country. Of the wines entered, twenty-two were
judged four stars or higher. We were in the top ten and featured in the magazine.
Dish tastng panel comments on our wine
Sourced from a 100-acre vineyard west of Hastings in the Mangatahi Valley alongside the Ngaruroro River, the wines produced by the team at Osawa just keep getting
better as the years progress and they’re now definitely one to watch from the
region. Cameron Douglas MS was impressed with this “modern style of chardonnay
with real interest and texture,” while Andrew Parkinson and Yvonne Lorkin both
agreed that it also showed tangy fruit concentration, refreshing, cleansing
texture and a long satisfying finish.

Bob Campbell chose an amazing 3 wines from our
range for inclusion in the Gourmet Traveller WINE editorial feature,
100 TOP NEW RELEASES. That's 3% of all the wines selected. Quite an
outstanding achievement given the breadth of choice Bob will have been given.... Wow! (not to mention he chose a Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc).

The Age Good Wine Guide 2013
Hawke's Bay is not the region that first springs to mind when you think of NZ Pinot Noir, but this offering from relative newcomer Osawa Wines shows plenty of varietal twang. Spiced red cherry and plum fruits segue into lighter wafts of game, red licorice and forest floor. Bright acidity, fine-grained tannins and a medium-length finish feature in a wine that shows excellent drinkability.

Osawa Hawke's Bay Prestige Collection Chardonnay 2010 ($39)
We continue to be impressed by Osawa wines and this chardonnay is no exception. A big wine at 14.5 per cent abv, it retains its poise and irresistibility.
Straw coloured with a gentle stone fruit, vanilla and cream aroma - all the power and finesse is on the palate.
Satin textured with ginger, soda and apple cider flavours that are quite crisp. By mid-palate sweet lemon and some classy oak are in the mix; the length, integration and complexity this wine displays say it all.

We were delighted when Paul Tudor and the tasting team Recomended our Flying Sheep Rose 2011. Described as...
Bright, cherry-red appearance, heightened aromatics of fruitcake and spice; a forward, punchy style of rose with some weight and concentration, along with a hint of sweetness on the finish.

Our winemakers are an eclectic bunch and this selection of
OTHER WHITES is a tiny taste of some of the lesser-known varieties that are
being put through their paces. They’re crisp, flavourful and fantastic to drink
on any occasion.

Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day
more civilised," observed the sage gourmet and wine scribe, Andre Simon.
With the season of significant dining shortly upon us, it's time to
break out the wines that befit these special celebrations.

Given our national love of desserts, it's surprising that sweet or
dessert wines are not more popular. It may be that consumers think that
if they're spending $30-plus on a bottle of wine it should be bigger
than the 375ml bottle that dessert wines often are.
And why are they this size? Sweet wines are complicated beasts to get right, needing certain weather patterns to allow the grapes an extended level of ripeness, and the ongoing winemaking process is and fraught with a high degree of difficulty.

2010 Sauvignon Blanc Prestige Collection Hawke's Bay
Pale hazy yellow with a green tinge. Fascinating oily aromas of lime, white pepper and minerals. Supple, rich and intense in the mouth, but not as complex as the nose suggests. Shows a strong note of curry powder and a hint of sweetness. Finishes a bit spiky but this distinctive wine boasts good texture. 88
